Chapter 23

NEXT UPDATE WILL ONLY BE IN 2015

RR through our eyes (Chapter 23)

Thanks Mano for the edits.
Thanks Amy for the review.

“You got kidnapped and they asked for a ransom. I just cannot believe such a thing happened. Who did it ? And you did not think it important enough to inform us?” Rajeev literally shouted at Myrah and kept asking her questions without giving her anytime to answer. “What else are you keeping from us? How could Rudra find you ? Thank God he saved you. But first tell me why were you kidnapped in the first place?”

“Because of her sheer stupidity and nothing else!!” came the angry reply in a reverberating voice. Rudra was back. And that was his first statement to Rajeev Mehra.

With the arrival of Rudra the family was complete in that living room. Actually the family – including the new family members to be inducted plus Rohit was present. A total of 12 adults and 3 kids and one infant. And the infant was not asleep till then. It was kicking its legs happily and makings noises while she was in Mohini’s lap. Well, that was till Rudra barged in with that line. Then the entire room went still. You could have heard the noise even if a mustard seed had fallen on the floor. If the infant could realise the seriousness of the situation, then what about adults ? Everbody heard the statement made by Rudra – except one. We will come to that part later.

Rudra was just filled with anger. Anger at Paro for having gone  out with those two saree sellers in spite of him ordering her to not step out of the house. Anger at her stupidity. In spite of all the effort which money and power can buy they were at a loss to find the minister’s daughter. Rudra shuddered at what would have happened had he not been able to reach on time to rescue Paro from the kidnappers. He knows Paro has no fear. But being fearless does not mean being stupid.

Kakusa knew all about Rudra’s anger. His childhood abandonment had made him an angry man. Angry at almost everything in this world. But Paro’s love had changed him. He had turned a new leaf. Became a loving husband and a doting father. Only to be plunged into sorrow later as Paro left them. Rudra then had directed all his anger at his and the nation’s enemies. And now after years he had found his connection with Myrah again. And when things were all going right for him and when the Mehras were impressed by the Ranawat family – yes Kakusa could see it in their eyes – Rudra has come and spoilt it fully. If at all somebody was foolish it was Rudra. No doubt. Kakusa thought he should say something before the situation goes out of hand. He cleared his throat.

Poonam was in a shock when she came to know about the bike accident and the kidnapping which happened. She was relieved that they were here with Myrah now. Seeing her safe and sound put Poonam at ease. Poonam was also pleased – immensely – to know that Rudra protected her both the times. She was happy that her daughter had found somebody who stood by her daughter in tough times as her body guard – literally. Poonam was already quite happy with what she saw in the haveli. People were nice. A very warm family. She had seen the bonding between Myrah and Dhruv. It was a mother-son bonding. Perfect in that. And now this news of Rudra’s courage and his attitude to do anything to protect Myrah. What more can a mother like Poonam ask for ? By nature she was an optimist. Always looked at a glass as half full and not half empty. So in her mind she had given the green signal for this wedding. Even before she saw her would be son-in-law. Then she heard his voice. And then she saw him. She liked what she saw. A very strikingly handsome man. She did not like what she heard. No man who cares for his girl will call her stupid in front of others. But Poonam was a very perceptive person. So she looked again. And saw only concern and love in his eyes. She understood that his words , his angry words, originated from his love for Myrah. And his eyes were just focused on Myrah and nobody else. Poonam decided to ignore his words. But she was afraid of Rajeev. Rajeev was not somebody who was good at looking beyond the words. And she was sure he will react. Maybe overreact to the situation to an extent of damaging it beyond repair. She held his hands tightly. And hoped that the grip will act as a break to Rajeev’s flow of words.

Rajeev was clearly happy during the lunch. The time the gifts were being distributed also made him glad. He did not see any greed in anybody’s eyes for the gifts. Only surprise and thanks for getting personalised gifts. He was happy till Dhruv told him about Myrah’s accident. And then came the shocking news of her abduction a few days back. He just could not believe that his only daughter, the object of all his love and affection, was kidnapped and taken away for ransom and he was unaware of the event. He was happily sitting miles away and going about his business as usual when his only child had a threat to her life ? He just could not believe his ears. Wondering why she got kidnapped in the first place. And then enters this man like a rolling ball of fire thundering that she got kidnapped because of her own stupidity. The daughter Rajeev knows is not stupid. Far from it. She has the brains to handle any situation. She had gone through the personal trauma and emerged victorious defying the doctors. She was very good in her academics. In her work with the NGOs. Both in India and abroad. Isn’t she the one who helped solve multiple cases of torture against women during her last visit to India ? Talking to many of the girl’s families, convincing them to come forward against the atrocities they faced from their in-laws ? Isn’t she the one who advocated adoption to many childless couples in America convincing them to take that one step towards their eternal happiness? Isn’t she the one who helped two girls and a boy to come out of their drug addiction in the U.S ?

Who is this guy , standing tall , who says such disrespectful things about Myrah ? What right does he have ? Agreed Myrah fell in love with him. And maybe he loves her. But that does not give him any right to talk so lowly of her. Nobody has ever talked bad about Myrah. No one can get away doing so – not in front of Rajeev Mehra at least. Oh Rajeev had a mouthful to tell Rudra. But then he felt Poonam’s grip on his own hand. The way his wife always does. Whenever she knew that Rajeev’s anger is going to get worse.

He took a deep breath before replying. And he said, “ Oh really ?”
Just two simple words. They were filled with sarcasm. Directed fully at Rudra.

Kakusa butted in and said .” Beta , Rudra.........”
Just two simple words. Filled with an intention to diffuse the situation.

And now the one person who did not register Rudra’s words. Myrah alias Paro. She did hear him. Just this voice. Not the words. The relief she felt was immense. The whole afternoon she has been trying to get hold of him. Worried when there was no news from him. He had promised to be back for lunch. And now it was hours later. And still there no news from him. His voice was like an ointment on her heart. She turned and felt his eyes on her. They just kept looking at each other. One with anger and another with relief. And in a few seconds the anger in his eyes mellowed down at her sight. Seeing her standing there was like a cold rain on his sweating body. He realised just then that he needs to just see her to put himself at ease. To be at peace he needs his Paro. Without her he is nothing. The kidnapping case which he was investigating has opened up his worries and fears again. His Birpur visit only made him more vulnerable. About her safety. About her. And the only thing which can soothe him is her sight. The anger in his eyes mellowed down. And slowly crept in into hers. Here she was going bonkers over her worries over him. And he was just striding in as if he is back from a walk.

“Rudra, you are back ? Where were you ? Do you know how worried I was about you ? How many times I tried calling you ? In your office and your mobile. I could not even reach any of your detectives. You promised to be here for lunch. Where in the world were you ? Couldn’t you have called up to let me know ? “ With every sentence her voice levels went up. She lunged at him and held onto his collar. Desperately hoping that holding him will bring down her worries. Touching him will erase her fears. Her own kidnapping had left her quite disturbed days back. It was a narrow escape for her. And for Rudra. She was not sure whether he thrust himself again in the face of such danger. Whether he had enough people with him before he followed the case. She kept bombarding him with questions expressing her anger and displeasure. In the middle of all those interactions Rajeev’s TWO words and Kakusa’s TWO words were drowned.

Rudra held her both upper arms and she was still holding onto his collar. He kept staring at her face. And she kept staring at him. He with relief and she with anger. There was always a mirror connection between Rudra and Paro. Their actions were mirrored at one point of time or another. It is just that today it happened within a matter of minutes.

Finally Rudra calmed down. Got his strength from her. And could see worry written all over her face. And he murmured, “ Mujhe Phone Karna Chahiye Tha. Maaf Kar de. “

The whole Ranawat family realised then that they were holding their breath. For a volcano to erupt. Two to be precise. From Rajeev and from Rudra. Luckily the danger was averted. As usual by the one and only who knows very well to keep the family intact. Paro.

Dhruv smiled at his Naana. Pulled his hand to bring the latter’s face down and whispered, “ Papa goes around shouting at everybody. Ordering everybody around. He only listens to Mummy.

Maithili walked to Myrah, “ Myrah, Jaane do na. Devarjisa ne bol diya toh maafi de do unko.” And she swifty took hold of Myrah’s hands. “Why are you troubling him so much ? Now be a good girl and introduce him to your parents. “

It was then that Myrah realised that it was Rudra’s first meeting with the Mehras. But before she could do the honors Dhruv came running  and took his father’s hand and took him to meet his new found Naana and Naani.

A Naani who was further pleased with the Damaad. A Damaad who might be a lion in the forest but still calms down in front of his lioness. A Naani who was extremely seeing the love. After all she did see ultimate love in Myrah’s eyes for Rudra and vice versa.

And the Naana was not as happy as the Naani. But it will do for the time being. Because he saw how Rudra the rogue elephant was tamed by Myrah the mahout. That made his mood better. Not that he is going to be nice to Rudra when they talk later. But for now Rajeev will be at his best.

And they did have their talk. Rajeev and Rudra. The two men in Myrah’s life. Both approached the other with caution after the earlier fiasco. Rudra did hear the sarcasm filled question from Rajeev. Though it did not register then he did remember it later. As a trained BSD office Rudra could hear and see even minor things which he can recall later. Though it might not register then and there. So he knew he has to be cautious with Rajeev.

“ I had gone after a lead in a kidnapping case. Of a daughter of a very influential person. Almost a week since the girl got abducted along with the friend. Still no clue about their whereabouts. And the trip brought back bitter memories of our past. When I thought I lost her. Which made me think of what if I had lost her forever. “ Rudra explained his day in a nutshell sitting in the living room to the Mehras late night.  The rest of the family had gone to sleep including Myrah. Mehras were there because of the jet lag. And Rudra was there because he could not sleep. Ironically Paro could always sleep even when she was in the midst of problems. That was one of her many traits which was just opposite of Rudra’s.

Rajeev and Poonam noticed the absence of an apology. And they realised that here was a man who will not say sorry unless he felt he did something wrong.

“It was her stupidity that day, you know. I asked her not to step outside the haveli but she went willingly with these two men to have a look at their saree collection.” Rudra mumbled something more after that but luckily the other two did not hear it thankfully.

Rajeev did not expect that. That his daughter can be so naive to trust two strangers and leave the house with them. But he was not yet ready to let go of his anger towards Rudra.

“ How did you find out about her whereabouts ?”

“ I got a call from the abductors”

“And why did they call you? And not me or her uncle? Were you saved as the favourite contact?”

“No. She asked them to call me. They were about to call her uncle.” Rudra did not mention Phata Doodh against his name which he saw in her phone

“And ? The kidnappers told you where they were so that you could go and find her and bring her back?”

Rudra stared at Rajeev. He could now see where this line of questioning was going.

“No they did not tell me.” Rudra wanted to add more but before he could answer Rajeev asked again

“And I assume you were quite intelligent to find out about her place so fast – on your own” The sarcasm was back. And Rudra heard it.

And then he thought about the day. About the events which unfolded - the phone call and then his drive to the building. He acknowledged in his mind first that it was her presence of mind that saved the day. She could get the men to call Rudra and she herself gave him clues about her surroundings that led him to her. Yep. She was intelligent. As she was most of the times J

Rudra grudgingly told the Mehras the truth. And looked them in the eye.

“I got your point. She was stupid to go with them. But intelligent enough to lead me to the place.”

Rajeev gave in. Finally. Here was a man who was truthful. He might be short tempered. But he was straightforward. And that is one quality which has to be admired. Rajeev face relaxed a bit breaking the ice.

But Rudra continued being serious. He wanted to get this conversation completed. There was no time for niceties. “I need to talk about a few more things with both of you. Now”

It did sound rather ominous to their ears.

  1. Good Morning JJ. As usual checked my blog and viola we have an update. Read the Chapter earlier, but could not post my comment from my phone. it does show up...I apologize for the duplicate.

Loved the Chapter. It had anger, tension and soothing tones.
Poonam's mixed reaction of feeling anger but then understanding the depth of the reason was perfect for a mother and a woman who understands love and affection.
Rajeev was a protective father and feeling his father's territory being invaded also was justified with his reaction.
Rudra - what can one say, his life....is Paro/Myrah. He is allowed his anger, concern and care.
Both the men have a common person they love, so there will be a camaraderie!!
"....few more things to talk about...." .....let's see how this goes in the next chapter.
Awesome job with the chapter. :)
    Mano, very nice collages. :)
Take care and have a good day!!.

  2. Hiya JJ..

See i landed here through your blog update :) Well nice chapter capturing everyone's emotions especially Mehras about their future SIL..I loved how Rudra was tamed by Paro's mere look..on a lighter note, I was rofling with animal names in this update..brought back memories of "chamgadals, oonth, chuha's of our original RR :)..

I am so curious with all that thinking process of Rajeev about Myra's ability ..am trying to figure out how Paro fitted all those qualities..

BTW JJ, you have got that knack of maintaining the suspense at the end of each chapter..now am curious what would Rudra like to talk..

Mano, that Mehra's pics emos are brilliantly done since others are RR cast and can be easily captured..Also the last pic of Rudra and Myra's look..uff..smart very smart gal..

  7. Another lovely piece to relish,JJKKL .....
" And the infant was not asleep till then. It was kicking its legs happily and makings noises while she was in Mohini’s lap. Well, that was till Rudra barged in with that line. Then the entire room went still. You could have heard the noise even if a mustard seed had fallen on the floor. If the infant could realise the seriousness of the situation, then what about adults " What you have conveyed through these words is beyond brilliance .....
Another beautifully written piece was " But Poonam was a very perceptive person. So she looked again. And saw only concern and love in his eyes. She understood that his words , his angry words, originated from his love for Myrah. And his eyes were just focused on Myrah and nobody else " .........now to even think/imagine to this extent is nothing short of OUTSTANDING.....Conveys everything in an Absoulutly perfect way .
" They just kept looking at each other. One with anger and another with relief. And in a few seconds the anger in his eyes mellowed ".......
and what do I say for these lines in which you have woven magic for us,the readers ?? Honestly,I can't think of anything that will justify my praise/admiration for your awesome writing skills so I will just let it be....The entire chapter deserves a standing ovation .

    Loved the update JJ.
Just as expected Poonam instantly approved of Rudra and Rajeev became overprotective hearing his words. Loved how Paro was able to calm Rudra and vice versa. The line
lion in the forest but still calms down in front of his lioness
is perfect for them. I always thought of Paro as a tigress actually especially when Laila used to call her a gentle cow.
The second thing I liked was Rajeev thinking of all the things Paro has accomplished in the last few years. She has done a lot of philanthropic work that I expected someone of her nature to with the right resources. She was meant to be more than a house wife.
The third part which I liked was how calmly Rudra explained what happened when Paro was kidnapped even if her father had a tough time believing him at first.
I assume the next part is when Rudra discusses with the Mehras what happened all those years ago.

  18. Loved this update, basically Mehra's sizing up the guy who is to marry their daughter. I liked the way Poonam saw beyond the words. I still like the way you show Paro/Myrah-Rudra, how they drown out everyone and everything when they are dealing with each other. Loved how Poonam saw that the lion/Rudra bowing down in front of his lioness/Paro. One word for you and these chapters...

Just one problem I have with your updates: Just when things get interesting or at turning point, you stop...then make me wait for an entire week to know what, how, when, who, this is pure evil...

  33. I loved this chapter more for the way you projected Rudra. This was the Rudra who just went missing later on in the show.

Rudra was always the straight talker never the one to mince words.

Poonam saw the love Rudra had for Myrah. Wished it had been the same for Rajeev. If he didn't like the way Rudra called Myrah stupid in front of everyone, how could one accept the way Myrah held Rudra's collar and scolded him in front of everybody. Somebody is biased here. And then to take pride in the fact that his daughter could tame the lion. Wished it had been different.

Though later when he actually had a one to one talk with Rudra, he warmed up to Rudra but still not accepting that his daughter was indeed the stupid to go out with two strangers.

Liked the way you showed a changed Rudra (Paro's Rudra) at the same time. One who actually had the patience to explain and accept other's point of view also.

What does Rudra want to tell them? Will he directly tell them that he thinks Myrah is Paro or will he show them Paro's photos? Either way it is ticking timebomb that is just waiting to explode on the Mehras.

    Mano lovely collages

  34. Hey JJ thanks for the PMs.
I love this story bas. Evry time I read a new chapter I ant help but imagine it playing out in my mind and that makes my day. It sooths my mind and heart. You know I was one of the many who were very depressed about the way RR was handled and how it could have been if it were given the slightest chance. We would still be watching it evry night at 9.30 probably with it going the way your RR is going. But anyway...I have totally erased the real RR 2 after I started ollowing your ff and let me thank you for that.

Just started reading your ff and already read 8 chapters in a go! and I do think I'm hooked to itWink

The twist of Myrah being the original Paro! I loved it! I did like 'myrah-Rudra' but I always had a greater preference for our bholi bhali Paro and her major saab! I missed the fact that Myrah was not Paro in the show and your ff just deliverd a compensation! The precise detailing that was somewhat missing in the show track is surely filled in by your ff! How you portrayed Rohit and Myrah's emotions! Rohit wasn't put in full use in the show (my opinion)!

By the way I'm reading your ff on the blog since it is much easier to find the list of its previous chapters in its index! and i'll surely be commenting hereLOL! hoping to read all of it by tomorrowLOL greedy me!
    Take care!

    Dear JJ,

First of all, let me say that you and your buddies are doing an amazing job at keeping the essence and the spirit of RR alive in the characterization of Rudra and Paro/Myrah, more so than the show ever did. Now, I haven't had a chance to read all the chapters in their entirety yet as you already know but from the few that I have read, you have written really well.

The story is really good and weaves in fluidly with other characters and it is plausible the way you have tried to work in the Myrah is Paro angle, I like it. And all the characters are important and it really works well for the development of your story. Also, special mention for the collage of pictures as it pertains to the situation appropriately, it really gives us a wonderful visual while reading about the charactersThumbs Up.

Overall, great job and keep up the good work!Clap

    Love,
    Sonia

  40. Like I thought, Sasurji is very mad at Rudra. But I am glad he has a very loving and understanding sasuma. I'm glad she saw through his feelings in his anger. And Paro aka Myrah is a daddy's girl. So the dad's anger is justified as well. In fact, if PaRud ever had a daughter together, I have a feeling that Rudra would react even worse than the way his FIL has reacted. But I am glad that THAT issue is resolved. I loved PaRud scene. Rudra being angry, Paro being relieved and vice versa. And like her parents, it's nice for us to read that THE Major Rudra Pratap Ranawat "BSD ke itne honhar officer--as Paro always said" tones down front of his wife.

And the last bit about Rudra wanting to talk about something. I wonder if it's regarding his wedding with Paro and how Myrah is a look alike of Paro. Or maybe he will tell them that Myrah is his wife Paro. Or Maybe not. Maybe he will tell them only about Paro/Myrah look alike and her parents will eventually start putting two and two together--like how she used to behave after her accident and etc. and reach the same conclusion as Rudras. Too many what ifs. So JJKL, please update soon and clear all these confusions! :)

p.s Regarding me skimming the kidnapping track, oh ho, no worries, chances are I am going to read this whole story from beginning. I have been yearning to watch PaRud lately. Once I get to her death--or the fake death--I will reread the story from beginning and this time with patience because this is the reality for me. BTW, this is exactly how I used to watch the episodes. I would skim through parts for PaRud scenes and then when I watched it with my family, we would watch everything together.

Sorry for being extremely late dear... the blog is not accepting my comments again.

I love the fact that you have not changed Rudra in this. He could not have undergone a complete makeover like they showed in the serial...well RR 2.0 was really a tragedy. It did not have anything good in it. sigh !

I love his qualities shown here...straightforward/ honest and very truthful. He does not shy away from accepting that Paro was indeed very good in handling the kidnappers...

It feels great to see Parud so attuned to each other even after a long gap. They have eyes only for each other when they want it and then everything else ceases to hold. It does not matter where they are and who is around them... beautiful thinking here JJ. Smile

What else is he going to talk about with the Mehras?

will he tell them about the Paro connection that Myrah has ... Love how the story is unfolding dear... there is so much more to come and I am glad there is a long way to go...

TC JJ and thanks to both Mano / Amy for their help in this.

For a while it was working fine but now again :( I updated my laptop maybe because of that, nut don't know where the problem is.

  44. Really great update, I love this story! My RR.
For some reason I assumed that I had missed two chapters, but I had read & commented ch 22. I am starting to lose my memory.

So much surprises to Mehra’s family. And the way they met Rudra at the first time…and Poonam, - she was great, she saw Rudra’s love for Paro/Myrah. That part was extremely well written.

Maaf kar de. Does it mean ”I am sorry”. Sounds familiar but I am not sure. But like to imagine that Rudra said sorry to Paro since she was obviously very worried over him.

And how interesting ending. ”I need to talk…”
Waiting for next update and that upcoming talking. From what Rudra will talk?

Why do I have to wait so long for next update :(

And Mano, great edits as usual. Now I am waiting those famous 420 words from you.

  48. pinky: OMG, it's been so long!! Sorry, just checked my IF messages after being MIA. I've had 3 exams in the past month, but I finally have a 1 week break to catch up...So, onto the chapters...marvellous! The story is moving forward...finally thankful to see Myrah's parents understanding their ignorance concerning their daughter. My Paro (aka Myrah) and Rudra's relationship is so powerful and you guys portray it so vividly. Thank you for that.

I can't wait for the next chapter...I'm on the edge of my seat! Thanks for the PM. I appreciate you keeping me in the loop even after all this time!

    Sorry about the laaate response

    Chapter 22
    ***************
Interesting update, full of interesting events
Even more damakhedhar ending - Rudhra's entry

    Chapter 23
    **************
This episode has less events, more description and analyses of characters and their thought process
Rudra doesn't sugarcoat anything for anybody, does he?
With Rudra what you see is what you get...

    **********************************************************************************************************************
    Wasn't that short and sweet?
Now tell me I can't be succinct...

    Finally finished reading today.Embarrassed
One more nice detailed update JJ.
Even the infant stopped...nice one.LOL So she already know how to behave when her uncle is angryEmbarrassed
I can totally picturise Paro holding Rudra and getting angry. She was worried for him the same way he was about her... nice mirror effect.
As father Mr. Mehra's reaction is reasonable.
Paro got an awesome mom who thinks and acts wisely.
At the end both important men of Paro's life came to an understanding... what a reliefBig smile
Hmmm.. what Rudra wants to talk about? I'm thinking it's about Paro, but how they'll take it or he'll hide the details and wants to get married soonConfused but Rudra is not a person of hiding important info. hmmm... ...damn... I should have read it after you posted the next updateLOL

  52. Hats off Dear .Awesome writing. I think one of the best story. Main plus yours , travel in a same way.So I feel it is real RR. Each and every word is mixed with emotions and situations. You are too good

Thanks for the new pair Aman and Sunehri. You used South India in one of the chapters. Happy for that.

Only Rudra knows Myrah is Paro. HAHA. What a twist dear

Please use English words only. Because I don't know Hindi. Just now started learning HAHA

    And Thakur is back.Good.
Very exciting. When is the next update ?

  54. waah only he can screw up and save at same time
he was mad that he could have lost paro again
    his anger was just
and if anything happens to her well that would be his end too
hmmm seems poonam is very perceptive
and rajeev is like any dad
    first he was angry
    and then she was
    they switch places so quickly
but all could see how myrah was the one to calm the raging lion
really she was mad at him too
well she has the rights to do so
after all she is his wife or for her his wife to be
meeting with parents could have been really screwed up
but he saved it so far
wow paro can sleep through anything
knowing that her rudra is there to protect her
and he worries over that hence loses his sleep
